The Churchill Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for British citizens to travel overseas to bring back fresh ideas for the benefit of others in the UK. Miriam’s Fellowship took her to the rust belts of Germany and the USA, visiting formerly derelict industrial sites that are being reused to the benefit of local communities. In the USA, she visited some of the early industrial buildings that inspired the Modernist Movement. Her study considered how creative approaches to the reuse of industrial buildings can attract funding, protect heritage and unlock regeneration opportunities. She hopes to help broaden the debate on the cultural significance of industrial heritage and its value in today’s post-industrial society.
