Chatterley Whitfield is recognised as the most complete surviving colliery complex in Britain. The site includes thirty-four listed buildings and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Chatterley Whitfield once employed 4,000 people and was the focal point of the community. Today, it remains an important visual and social landmark for the region. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios prepared the masterplan for the regeneration of the 60 hectare site, proposing a range of employment, education and community facilities while conserving the special qualities of the monument. Completed phases include the conversion of the former administrative offices and weighbridge as flexible space for business start-ups.
